All rowers at Robinson are
encouraged to participate in a fall rowing camp. Novice rowers, in
particular, are encouraged to register for a camp. This is a great
chance to try crew and see if you like it before making a commitment to it
for the whole year. Returning rowers are also encouraged to
participate in the more competitive programs available.

Program for rowers with at least one
(1) year of experience |
The Fairfax County Sculling and Rowing Program
is a fall rowing camp at Sandy Run Park, Occoquan,
VA. It is
designed to allow local area high school rowers, with at least one year
rowing experience, the opportunity to improve their fundamental rowing
skills and technique in a fun (multi school), competitive rowing
environment.
This year’s program will have both a Select and Development team,
allowing all desired rowers/coxswains the opportunity to participate and
race. Rowers will participate in a three week tryout period. After the
initial three weeks, rowers will be placed on either the Select or the
Development team, based on their current rowing abilities. The selection
criteria for the Select Team will be based on attendance, attitude, erg
times (based on a 12 minute erg piece), weight adjusted erg times, as
well as, on the water assessments. Additional erg testing may be
required throughout the 9 week season for the Select Team. Every effort
will be made to incorporate as many different schools as possible into
each boat. Additionally, the select boats will have the following
limitation placed on them: EACH BOAT WILL BE LIMITED TO A MAX
OF 50% (4) OF ITS ROWERS COMING FROM ANY ONE AREA HIGH SCHOOL.
It is anticipated that the select team will be comprised of 2 eights;
possibly 3 depending on the number of qualified rowers. Two (2) quads may also be
part of the select team, as well.
Cost for each session is $200 for rowers, $50 for coxswains.
