ROBINSON CREW TAG DAY
2008 TAG DAY:  Saturday, February 9, 2008
TAG DAY Contact:
Jane Dunfee

TAG DAY is one of Robinson crew's biggest fundraisers.  It is a MANDATORY event for ALL rowers (rowers do not earn points for participating but parents/siblings/friends can earn points for a rower by volunteering to help).  Rowers who do not participate must pay a $100 non-participation fee.  On this day, crew members are driven around the local community and go door-to-door talking to community members about RSS crew and asking for donations.  Should the February 9th TAG DAY be cancelled due to weather, it will be MANDATORY that ALL rowers participate in the make-up TAG DAY on the following Saturday (February 16th).  We will use Feb. 10th from 12:30-4:30 as “leftover day” to finish any routes left incomplete on the first day.  If TAG DAY is shifted to the following weekend, we will use Feb. 17th from 12:30-4:30 as “leftover day” to finish any routes left incomplete on the first day.  Those assisting with "leftover days" should report to the Dunfee home at 4918 Gadsen Dr in Fairfax, at the stated time, NOT ROBINSON.

TAG DAY INFO:  This year TAG DAY is Saturday, Feb. 9th, 2008 at 9:00am.  Volunteers are asked to gather in the Robinson hallway near the weight room (outside the gym).  BE ON TIME!  If there is a question about weather, you will receive an email by 8am the morning of the event.

Some important facts to help you prepare:

  • TIME - The routes we cover on TAG DAY are large.  Plan for the event to last 5 hours.  If your rower cannot attend this for some reason, you need to email Jane Dunfee.
  • POINTS - Rowers do not earn points for participating in the 1st TAG DAY, but parents/siblings/friends can earn points for a rower by volunteering to help.
  • "LEFTOVER DAY" - Those that have participated in the mandatory TAG DAY, can earn points by participating on the "leftover" day.  Please email Jane Dunfee if you are interested in volunteering.  Again,  team members MUST have participated on the 1st day to be allowed to earn points on subsequent days.  On subsequent days, drivers and team members get one point for each hour worked .
  • FOOD - Team members can earn one point by bringing food on Feb. 9th.  If you are bringing food, please come at 8:30 so we can set it up.  Requested food donations.
  • CAR SIGNUPS - Please email Jane Dunfee to sign-up for car assignments.  State the name of the rower, experienced/novice, and who they want to be in the car with.  Two novice and two experienced rowers will be in each car.  On TAG DAY, an experienced rower will pair with a novice to go door-to-door.  NOTE: No more than 4 rowers are allowed in any one car so that we have enough teams to cover all the routes.
  • DRESS ATTIRE-   Please wear spiritwear if you have it.  Rowers need to expect it to be cold and bring warm clothing (jackets and hats).  They should wear clean clothing and shower and shave before you come.  Don’t wear pajama bottoms or pants that hang down and look sloppy.  This isn’t the time or place for that.  We want to impress people through our presence and effort so they’ll agree that Robinson crew is a valuable organization to donate their money.
  • PROCESS - It is important that we give everyone credit for the work they do during this event.  To help us manage this, please try to follow the process below when you come on the 9th:
    1. bring your food to the food table if you have it and make sure you sign-in for your point credit
    2. rowers – sign-in at the rower table and find out what car you are in.  Make sure you leave a cell phone number with us if you have one.
    3. drivers – sign-in at the drivers table.  You will be given a sign to hold up when it is time so your rowers can find you if they’ve never met you before. Make sure you leave a cell phone number with us if you have one.
    4. enjoy something to eat until everyone has arrived.  You make take 2 snacks and a drink with you for the road.  We will have some brief last minute instructions before you leave.
  • DOOR TO DOOR - Each novice rower should be paired with an experienced rower when they go door to door.  There is a short script we will give the rowers on Feb. 6th to learn, but it will be kept simple and clear.  Because there have been people misrepresenting themselves as legitimate fund raisers recently in different communities, it is important we present a positive image.  There should not be any rower going alone to anyone’s home for safety purposes. If you run out of TAGS, please call 703-850-4322.
  • MONEY - Money collected should be given to the parent driver soon after it is collected, every 20-30 minutes at least.  There will be an envelope provided specifically for this.  Cashiers will be waiting at the end of the day to receive this and tally it up.
